Material selection is just one of the ways we can accelerate the built environment’s contribution to net zero and is a critical factor when imagining the buildings of tomorrow. This talk will put the spotlight on different materials, specificall mass timber, which are shaping the future of design and construction, exploring their use, benefits and limitations and environmental impact across their full life cycle.

The talk discusses the different varieties of Mass Timber or ‘engineered timber’ products and the benefits of the two main Mass Timber products, being CLT & Glulam, and how they are currently being used in construction

The presenters discuss techniques involved in making Mass Timber as economic as possible, expand 

on the Biophilic attributes that building  building with Mass Timber can deliver and review the 

environmental benefits of using Mass Timber in building, namely Carbon Storage.
