The Disability (Access to Premises - Buildings) Standards 2010, were introduced across Australia on 1st May 2011. They will mean significant change in the requirements for access for new and upgraded buildings in Australia. This session provides an introduction to the Standards and an overview of who and what they apply to as well as what they cover. This is a great introduction for those people interested in undertaking further training relating to Access to the Built Environment, including the Certificate in Access Appraisal and Certificate IV in Access Consulting.

  • Understand the broad legislative framework between the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA), Disability Access to Premises Standards (DAPS), Building Code of Australia (BCA) & Australian Standards (AS)

    Joe Manton is the Director of Access Audits Australia and the Institute of Access Training Australia, an Accredited Committee Member of the Association of Consultants in Access Australia (ACAA) and inaugural Convenor of the Victorian Access Consultants Network (VACN).

    Joe is a highly regarded leader in the access profession with more than 30 years experience, working across an extensive range of organisations to address access challenges.

    She has undertaken access studies in the United Kingdom, is a Fellow of the Williamson Community Leadership Program and a member of the Australian Institute of Training and Development (AITD).

    Joe has recently developed and delivered the IATA Certificate IV in Access Consulting course, the first in Australia, that is highly sought after by many people working in with the access industry.

    She has extensive experience in the development and delivery of training programs and publications to enhance the learning opportunities for professionals working to improve access to the built environment. Specific areas of expertise include development and delivery of training to address access issues in the built environment, Disability Action Plans, community engagement, innovative access projects, access audits and appraisals as well as access research and improvement projects.
